‘England fear Hudson-Odoi has accepted Ghana switch’

England are said to be resigned to losing Callum Hudson-Odoi to Ghana with the Chelsea winger ‘disillusioned’ with the FA.

The 20-year-old is the son of Bismark Odoi a former footballer who played for Ghanaian giants Hearts of Oak.

Hudson-Odoi’s close ties to Ghana saw him travel to Accra this summer where he met president Nana Akufo-Addo, Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif and Ghana FA boss Kurt Okraku.

He has appeared three times for the Three Lions’ senior side, though the last of his outings came in 2019.

Last month, Hudson-Odoi was called up for the England Under-21s, an opportunity he rejected in order to ‘focus on his development at Chelsea.’

According to the Daily Mail, the Blues youngster has become disillusioned with the England set-up.

After creating history two years ago by becoming England’s youngest player to make their debut in a competitive match, Hudson-Odoi is said to have been disappointed after being dropped to the U-21 squad.

The Daily Mail also states how England now accept that the 2021 Champions League winner will switch his international allegiance to Ghana.

Manager Gareth Southgate promised the forward he still has a role in his team earlier this month.

But it appears that Hudson-Odoi, who has dual nationality, has made his mind up.

Hudson-Odoi has not represented England at the finals of a major tournament while all of his three competitive senior appearances came before the age of 21. These make his switch to Ghana a huge possibility.

Should the youngster firm up the decision to switch, he cannot play for Ghana immediately but will have to wait until November 2022, right in time for the Qatar 2022 Fifa World Cup should the Black Stars qualify.
