Barreto finally signs out as Kotoko coach

Mariano Barreto will no longer be returning to Asante Kotoko after finally signing his termination agreement Friday.

The management of the club has been engaging the Portuguese trainer about a contract termination in recent weeks.

Club sources indicate he could take a compensation package equal to three months of his salary.

Barreto joined Kotoko mid-way through the 2020/21 season to head their technical team for two-and-half-years.

Following last season’s campaign which Kotoko went trophyless, both parties have agreed to the contract existing between them.

Barreto leaves with his other two assistants- Miguel Bruno and Pedro Manuel – who served as a video analyst and physical/injury prevention coach respectively.

This significant development paves way for the club to announce Barreto’s successor and kickstart preseason early next week.

Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum is quitting Premier League rivals WAFA SC and will be announced the new Asante Kotoko head coach any time soon.

In a related development, one of Kotoko’s local assistant coaches – Johnson Smith – is also leaving the club at the ned of his contract.
