2022 WCQ: Rédouane Jiyed to officiate Ghana-Ethiopia clash

The Confederation of African Football (Caf) has appointed Moroccan Rédouane Jiyed to referee the Qatar 2022 Fifa World Cup qualifying Group G opener between Ghana and Ethiopia.

The Black Stars are scheduled to hosts the Walias at Cape Coast Sports Stadium on Friday, September 3, 2021. Kickoff is at 19:00 GMT.

Rédouane, 42, has been an international referee since 2009 and is currently one of Africa’s foremost knights of the whistle listed for the upcoming World Cup finals.

He will be assisted by compatriots Azgaou Lahsen (Assistant I), Akarkad Mostafa (Assistant II) and Jayed Jalal (Fourth Referee).

Lawson-Hogban Latre-Kayi Edzona from Togo will work as Referee Assessor while Gomez Martin from The Gambia serves as the Match Commissioner.

Rédouane was in charge of Ghana’s famous 5-1 thrashing of Congo in Brazzaville during the 2018 Fifa World Cup qualifiers.

He was the referee when Medeama SC beat Young Africans 3-1 at Essipong in the group stages of the 2016 Caf Confederation Cup.

In 2014, Rédouane Jiyed also officiated the 1-1 draw between Ghana and Libya at the group stage of the CHAN tournament.
