Black Stars coach, CK Akonnor handed call-ups to five local players in his provisional squad fo 30 for the upcoming 2022 Fifa World Cup qualifiers.
Following Hearts of Oak’s sumptuous run in the just-ended season which saw them winning the Ghana Premier League and the MTN FA Cup, they contributed two players – the most by a local club in the latest squad.
The Hearts duo of Richard Attah and Daniel Afriyie Barnieh are joined by Steadfast midfielder Fatawu Ishahaku, Philemon Baffour of Dreams FC and Asante Kotoko’s Abdul Ganiyu.
Ghana are scheduled to open their qualifying campaign to the Qatar 2022 World Cup at home – the Cape Coast Sports Stadium – to Ethiopia on Friday, September 3.
The Black Stars then travel to face South Africa in their second game in Group G of the qualifiers three days later.
