Bechem United beat Kotoko, stave off relegation zone with one game to go

Bechem United needed nothing but a win to ensure avoiding relegation drama in next week’s season finale and did so by beating Asante Kotoko 2-1 on Sunday.

Steven Owusu scored both goals in the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League match-day 33 fixture at Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park.

The opener came through as early as the 5th minute when Owusu was fed by teenager Clinton Duodu in a crowded box and the striker powered home with his left foot.

Kotoko were gifted their way back into the game in the 34th minute when Bechem goalkeeper failed to timely clear his lines, allowing Solomon Sarfo Taylor to pounce and snatch possession before slotting into an empty net.

Steven Owusu then restored the lead for the Hunters three minutes from the break after being handed a penalty.

The hosts held on to their 2-1 lead throughout the second half.

The invaluable victory puts Bechem in 11th position and confirms their Premier League status for next season.

Bechem United will complete their 2020/21 league campaign away to relegation-threatened Ebusua Dwarfs. Kotoko, on the other hand, also host another survival-chasing side in Elmina Sharks.
