2020/21 MTN FA Cup: Medeama get Hearts semis date after extra-time win

A Prince Opoku Agyemang extra-time penalty secured Medeama SC a place in the semifinal of the 2020/21 MTN FA Cup Sunday afternoon.

The Mauve and Yellows were made to sweat before ending Attram de Visser Soccer Academy’s remarkable story at the quarterfinals stage with a 3-2 victory over the third-tier side at Akoon Park.

Medeama took a healthy two-goal lead through midfielder Benjamin Arthur and striker Amed Toure in the 44th and 54th minutes respectively.

But Atrram de Visser never gave in and fought back to force the game into extra time.

Joshua Anim capitalized on a defensive howler by Medeama centre-back Vincent Atingah to halve the deficit in the 66th minute.

Kingsley Sakyi then levelled the scores with a beautiful free-kick in the 73rd minute.

The game ended 2-2 in regulation time.

Medeama proceeded to go 3-2 up in the 105th minute thanks to a penalty converted by Opoku Agyemang who came off the bench in the second half.

The two-time FA Cup winners held on to win and will now come up against record champions (10 times) Hearts of Oak in the semifinals next weekend.

The semifinal matches will be played at one venue – the Cape Coast Sports Stadium – on July 31 and August 1.

The grand finale is also scheduled for Sunday, August 8, 2021.
