Wonders boost survival hopes with home win over Bechem

Eleven Wonders survived a late scare and boosted their hopes of avoiding relegation from the Ghana Premier League with a 2-1 win over Bechem in Techiman on Sunday.

It took the hosts just three minutes to shoot themselves ahead in the match-day 28 fixture. And it was experienced defender Mohammed Tetteh Nortey who ensured that with an expertly taken penalty kick past goalkeeper Isaac Asempa.

Inside first-half stoppage time, striker Alex Asamoah made it 2-0 for Wonders after dribbling past the Hunters’ keeper.

Bechem came back and played strongly in the second half and managed to halve the deficit through a penalty converted by substitute Steven Owusu in the 77th minute.

The goal boosted the Hunters as they put their hosts under immense pressure late on in chase for the equalizer but time was not on their side.

Eleven Wonders held on to win 2-1 and move one spot up to 13th with 33 points, just one behind Bechem United after 28 matches.
