Liberty Professionals all but confirmed relegation for Inter Allies after travelling to beat them 2-0 in a battle of bottom clubs on match-day 31 of the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League Sunday afternoon.
The visitors took a 2-0 first-half lead before settling for a barren second 45 minutes at Dawu Park.
Brite Andoh shot relegation-threatened Liberty up with his strike in the 16th minute.
Before half time, Inter Allies were reduced to 10 men after captain Emmanuel Agyemang Badu picked two yellow cards in a space of six minutes (the 37th and 43rd).
Four minutes from recess, Simon Asamoah Appiah powered home a free-kick to make it 2-0. He has now scored in successive games.
The two teams cancelled out each other in the second half with Liberty missing a penalty in the 79th minute. Winger Abraham Wayo – after coming off the bench – saw his effort from the spot saved by Allies goalkeeper Gideon Ahenkorah.
Liberty ended the game with a 2-0 win and now move up from 17th to 14th position with 35 points.
Inter Allies are rooted bottom with 26 points and could have their first demotion to second-tier football since the 2013/14 season confirmed by the end of the match-day 31 round of games on Monday.
