Tweneboah volley gives Aduana derby win over Berekum Chelsea

Aduana FC narrowly beat Berekum Chelsea 1-0 in their 2020/21 Ghana Premier League (GPL) match-day 23 Bono derby clash Sunday afternoon.

A derby filled with chances especially for the hosts but had a solitary goal at the Nana Agyeman Badu I Park in Dormaa.

Skipper Bright Adjei, Benjamin Tweneboah and Sam Adams came close to scoring but failed to be as clinical as possible.

Five minutes from the break, Aduana were presented a golden opportunity to take the lead via a spot-kick after Berekum Chelsea returnee skipper Abdul Basit brought down an Aduana player with a mistimed tackle.

But Adams – who stepped up for the penalty – failed to make use of the chance as he struck his kick into the post.

Benjamin Tweneboah will, however, make up for his misses in the opening half by breaking the deadlock right at the start of the second half.

Berekum Chelsea’s Jorge Renchi failed to clear a big boot upfield by centre-back Nurudeen Abdulai and the ball fell on the path of the winger who, without hesitation, brilliantly hit a volley into the far post.

Both sides threatened each other with a lot more chances but Tweneboah’s cracking strike stayed the match decider.

With the 1-0 win, Aduana now move to 8th position on 33 points while Berekum Chelsea sit 13th with 27 points from 23 matches.
