Mariano Barreto takes aim at refereeing despite Kotoko win

Asante Kotoko coach, Mariano Barreto has expressed displeasure in the output of match officials in their 1-0 victory against Legon Cities in Accra.

Fabio Gama netted the only goal of the encounter via a free-kick in the 13th minute to put his side back to victory lane after losing at home to Medeama last weekend.

Barreto congratulated his side but never left out referee Emmanuel Tampuri and his assistants who for him were poor on the night.

“I congratulate my players for the win. Yes, we won but for me, we played 11 against 14. Very strange refereeing.

“We train to play well and win games and that’s our job. Some people have also got to learn the rules. What we saw here and what the viewers saw on TV, makes me ashamed for football.

“It’s normal to make mistakes. But it’s not possible to make several mistakes against one team in two different games.

“Now I understand why people warned me about the officials. We have Imoro injured now because of bad tackles. It’s sad, this refereeing.”

The Portuguese gaffer was also elated to see Ghanaian football star Asamoah Gyan who he described as his boy.

“In all this, I’m excited to see Gyan, my young boy who I brought to the Black Stars some 17 years ago.

“He looks a bit fat but still a fantastic player. I wish him well at Legon Cities.”

Asante Kotoko remain second in the league standings and have Dreams FC up next.
