David Obeng: Kotoko youth team to be up and running by…

Acting Asante Kotoko Communications Manager, David Obeng Nyarko says the club is looking to begin youth team operations by the start of 2022.

The Porcupines signed a deal with English football outfit Southampton in January that will see the club rebuild their youth system and improve other important sections of the team.

Kotoko has commenced construction of their training complex and housing facilities to house the club’s players and the youth team.

With that in mind, the communication chief says the current management expects to kick-start operating the youth team by 2022.

“One major vision under this management is to create a youth team for Asante Kotoko and is the reason why the club is in partnership with Southampton in England.

“They have one of the best academies in the world and is known for how they have churned out quality players,” Obeng told Angel FM Kumasi.

“In Ghana too, Kotoko is known for producing young players and we hope to learn a lot from Southampton and that will help us create a formidable youth team by next year.”

The Nana Yaw Amponsah-led management was given a three-year mandate by the Board of Directors to revamp the club’s plan to make Kotoko great again in Africa.
