AshantiGold fall to Medeama on stoppage-time penalty

Prince Opoku Agyemang struck a stoppage-time penalty as Medeama SC ground out a 1-0 win at home to AshantiGold in their 2020/21 Ghana Premier League match-day 26 tie Sunday afternoon.

The Miners had held their own very well for a good 90 minutes at Akoon Park before they got undone by a penalty decision.

There was an additional time of 8 minutes due to many stoppages in the second half.

More than halfway through the time added on, referee Jacob Aduntera pointed to the spot after an alleged handball by AshantiGold’s Stephen Owusu Banahene, much to the shock and chagrin of the visitors.

Medeama striker Opoku Agyemang stepped up against Kofi Mensah and scored from the spot despite the goalkeeper getting the direction of his kick

The 1-0 victory means Medeama return 4th with 43 points and keep pace with third-placed Great Olympics who edge them via the head-to-head rule. The two sides are only three points off top spot which is now occupied by Hearts of Oak after 26 matches.

Medeama’s Fatawu Sulemana was named NASCO man-of-the-match.
