Romain Folz: AshantiGold deserved the win against Hearts

New AshantiGold coach, Romain Folz says his side’s victory over Hearts of Oak on match-day 19 of the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League (GPL) was deserved, despite coming through a controversial injury-time penalty.

Skipper Amos Addai netted the only goal of the encounter at Len Clay Stadium in the 4th minute of additional time after the Phobians’ captain Fatawu Mohammed was adjudged to have handled the ball after it first struck his body.

The decision was quite contested by the visitors who had earlier also won a penalty in the first half but had it saved by goalkeeper Kofi Mensah.

In his post-match reaction, the 30-year-old Miners’ trainer said the three points was deserved and hailed the fight from his players in handing him a winning start.

“We deserved the win. I am very proud of the players”, Folz stated.

“We said before every game that we will do our best to win every game.

“So today that was the case and I am very happy. What we have to do to be a solid team is to be better defensively,” the French coach added.

AshantiGold go ninth in the league standings and will next travel to play relegation-threatened King Faisal at Ohene Ameyaw Park.
