#GPLwk19: Olympics knocked off top spot after defeat to Legon Cities

Great Olympics were knocked off top spot after falling to a 2-0 defeat in an away fixture against Legon Cities at the Accra Sports Stadium on match-day 19 of the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League Sunday afternoon.

Olympics’ stay at the top of the standings lasted a week as Asante Kotoko took their place after beating Berekum Chelsea 2-0 in Obuasi.

And in Accra, Legon Cities ended a run of back-to-back defeats with second-half Both goals from Nicholas Mensah and Jonah Attuquaye.

After a tight battle, Olympics succumbed to a 58th-minute header off a corner by Mensah who had come off the bench moments earlier. The Olympics defenders reacted with a swift clearance of the centre-back’s effort to safety but the ball had already crossed the line.

Winger Jonah Attuquaye brilliantly doubled the lead from close range after outwitting his marker on the left in the 70th minute.

The Royals’ 2-0 victory takes them a spot up to 14th on 22 points while Olympics drop to second position with 33 points, one behind new leaders Asante Kotoko.
