‘Creating more chances brings goals’ – Barreto on fixing Kotoko scoring problems

New Asante Kotoko coach, Mariano Barreto is unhappy with the club’s goal ratio, indicating it is an area he is already trying to address.

Goalscoring has been. A problem for the Porcupines particularly this season. They are one of five teams with goals below the number of matches they have played so far in the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League.

Speaking on challenges identified in his first week in charge at the club, the Portuguese trainer Thursday said:

“There are many things to change. Our team is not scoring many goals. We cannot score only 13 goals in 16 matches. We have to change this fact.

“If we were not making many goals, it is probably we were not creating many chances.

“We are working first to change the way we play. We have to come more times near to the posts of the opponents. We have to create more chances and take the right decisions.

“This is what we are doing at training. But we don’t have time; we have a game after tomorrow [Saturday] and Wednesday we have another match in Obuasi so everybody has to make the effort to try to get all these things as fast as possible,” Barreto added.

Asante Kotoko travel to face Eleven Wonders at the Ohene Ameyaw Park in Techiman for their first game in the second round of the ongoing GPL.
