Kosta Papic resigns just 77 days into second Hearts stint

Hearts of Oak head coach, Kosta Papic, has resigned after just 77 days in the role, deepening the instability at the technical department of the Ghanaian giants.

On December 1, 2020, the 60-year-old Serbian – placed on a $4,000 monthly salary – was announced to have returned to the club in a deal that was to run until the end of the ongoing 2020/21 season.

But Papic, after a 10-game spell, has had cause to jump the Phobian ship.

At a lengthy meeting with the club’s top hierarchy on Monday, the former eSwatini trainer cited personal reasons for his decision and turned down several pleas from board members to stay.

Barely a week ago, his assistant, Joseph Asare Bediako, also resigned from his post, citing personal reasons.

Kosta Papic took over from Edward Odoom and led Hearts to 10 matches in the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League. He won four, drew three and lost three.

Hearts of Oak, who have been on a bad patch in their last four games, are currently 11th in the league standings, having played 13 matches so far.
