Elmina Sharks in financial distress | coach Yaw Acheampong cries out for help

Things are not well financially for Ghana Premier League club Elmina Sharks, according to head coach Yaw Acheampong.

Lying 12th on the league log and having drawn their last three games, fans of the club have hence expressed their anger at the club’s dip in form.

The reaction of the fans in their last game against Berekum Chelsea is what their long-standing gaffer is discontent with.

Speaking on Ocean1 TV, Acheampong revealed the several problems that have played a part in his team’s poor run.

“Off the pitch, there are problems. For example, Benjamin Tweneboah is home now because he has not been paid for several months.

“Also, none of my technical team members has an official contract. Injured players find it difficult treating themselves because there’s no money in the club now.”

The gaffer wants the fans to rather support rather than verbally abusing the club.

“We had just GH¢200 as gate proceeds yesterday after the draw against Berekum Chelsea.

“We are really struggling financially and it’s time the fans accept certain problems and support the club rather than insulting us.”

How Sharks’ crisis began

Bankroller Papa Kwesi Nduom has endured losses since  August 16, 2019, when the Bank of Ghana revoked the license of GN Savings and Loans, owned by the financial mogul.

In totality, his business firm Groupe Nduom has suffered a major loss since the decision by the Central Bank.

The lawyers of Groupe Nduom are currently in court over the case.

Gold Coast Management Fund, an investment firm, part of Groupe Nduom, in their bid to get their license back to eligibility, released a list of 4,200 companies indebted to them to a tune of over GH¢434million.
