Official: Ashimeru joins Anderlecht on loan with purchase option

He will wear the number 18 shirt

Ghana midfielder Majeed Ashimeru has officially joined Belgian giants RSC Anderlecht on loan until the end of the 2020/21 season.

The Mauve and whites have a purchase option.

Ashimeru, 23, after helping Red Bull Salzburg retain the Austrian Bundesliga title last term, has been limited to just 13 appearances in all competitions for the champions in the ongoing 2020/21 season.

The situation, which seemed not to be improving under coach Jesse Marsch, forced the central midfielder to force a loan move to continue his development.

“Majeed is a young, versatile midfielder with a lot of verticality in his game. He was schooled withing the Red Bull philosophy, meaning his profile matches what we look for in a player.

“On top of that, Majeed has a good acceleration and he loves to infiltrate.

“Even more importantly, Majeed really wanted to come to Anderlecht, and we negotiated an option to buy the player, which gives us a perspective on a long term collaboration,” RSC Anderlecht Sports Director Peter Verbeke told the club’s website.

The move to Anderlecht is Ashimeru’s fourth loan outing. He has already enjoyed successful spells at Austria Lustenau, Wolfsberger AC and FC St. Gallen since joining Red Bull from WAFA SC in 2017.

RSC Anderlecht, who lie 5th and 10 points adrift leaders Club Brugge on the Belgian Jupiler Pro League table after 20 matches, expect Ashimeru to begin life at the club as soon as possible. He has been handed the number 18 shirt.
