Two Maxwell Abbey Quaye penalty goals helped Great Olympics to beat Inter Allies 2-0 in their 2020/21 Ghana Premier League match-day 9 clash on Friday.
Both sides came into the game at the Accra Sports Stadium having suffered defeats in their previous matches.
Visiting Olympics hoped for a bright start with a return to winning ways under new coach Yaw Preko and did so by dictating play in the Accra derby.
Soon, Eric Osei Bonsu won a penalty for the Dade Boys after he was tripped from the back by a late Desmond Abuga challenge
Abbey Quaye firmly planted the ball past goalkeeper Rashid Seidu with a 9th-minute strike from the spot.
The attacker could have doubled the lead moments later after he was put through on goal but his fine strike was equally met by Seidu who parried the ball for a corner kick.
The second half saw Inter Allies mostly let down by an indecisive attack with Olympics always looking dangerous at the opposite end.
In the 66th minute, Michel Otou had the chance to score against his former club after the Allies defence failed to clear Gladson Awako’s cutback but the midfielder blasted the ball over the net from the six-yard.
Defender Ernest Adu was introduced in the 78th minute for Mohammed Zakari and his immediate contribution was becoming a victim of what appeared a rather harsh penalty decision against Inter Allies.
The centre-back had his arms wide open as a shot struck his shoulder but referee Musah Mubarik whistled for a penalty.
Abbey Quaye was on hand once more and buried the penalty deep in the net 10 minutes from time.
Great Olympics succeeded in welcoming new boss Yaw Preko well with a 2-0 win while the defeat is the second for Danijel Mujkanovic who took up the Allies job in late December.
The victory pushes Olympics up to 4th place 14 points from 9 games while Inter Allies stay 16th with 7 points.
