Boakye, Lomotey score the goals as WAFA defeat Berekum Chelsea

Berekum Chelsea could not face the might of WAFA SC’s performance once again at the Sogakope Park on match-day five of the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League (GPL).

Two goals from Augustine Boakye and Daniel Lomotey downed the Bibires who can only boast of a win against Liberty Professionals this season.

In other outings, their 1-1 stalemate to Legon Cities and Asante Kotoko are flanked by a 1-0 defeat to Ebusua Dwarfs in Cape Coast. Five points from a possible 15 so far.

WAFA were strong from kickoff and recorded the opener through Augustine Boakye’s powerful strike outside the 18-yard area on the 15th minute.

After the lead, the home side maintained a good display in midfield to have their lead safe till half time.

In the second half, Chelsea still suffered in defence as WAFA could have netted two more in the early moments.

However, it happened in the 72nd minute when Daniel Lomotey slotted home a well-placed pass from Augustine Boakye to extend the margin.

Down by two goals with the match in its closing stages, the Blues had no magic wand to twist the match in their favour.

It had to end 2-0 for the Academy boys who were outstandingly stronger in attack and midfield.

It’s now three victories from five games and a 1-1 draw against Elmina Sharks. Their only defeat so far is a 1-0 result at Bechem United.

WAFA will play Great Olympics in their next fixture while Berekum Chelsea face a stern derby test against Aduana Stars.
