Liberty snatch late equalizer, hold Sharks to 1-1 draw

A red card, missed penalty and a late equalizer highlighted the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League match-day 2 encounter between Elmina Sharks and Liberty Professionals.

Spoils were shared at the Nduom Stadium – 1-1 Sunday afternoon.

Winger Benjamin Tweneboah netted once more against Liberty – just as he almost always does against them – to register his first goal of the campaign.

The goal came in the 27th minute with Tweneboah embarking on a solo run, beating his markers before hitting home for the hosts.

Liberty were presented a glorious chance to come back in the game via a penalty won by Razak Boame just on the hour mark but skipper George Ansong saw his effort saved by Sharks goalkeeper Lord Bawa Martey.

But Sharks had to survive the remaining half-hour with a man down as Dennis Mensah got sent off for a second yellow card.

Coach Yaw Acheampong’s men held on to the 1-0 lead before substitute Kwaku Karikari equalized for Liberty in the 90th minute.

A five minutes time added on was not enough for both Sharks and Liberty to separate each other. 1-1 it ended.

Benjamin Tweneboah was adjudged NASCO man-of-the-match.

Elmina Sharks play guests to WAFA SC while Liberty Professionals host Eleven Wonders on match-day 3.
