I advised Partey to snub Chelsea and Man Utd for Arsenal – Adebayor

Partey has made a promising start to his Arsenal career.

Togo star Emmanuel Adebayor has revealed he urged Thomas Partey to join ‘family club’ Arsenal over Premier League rivals Chelsea and Manchester United.

The Ghana midfielder joined Arsenal from Atletico Madrid in September after the Gunners met his £45m buy-out clause.

Partey contacted Adebayor before leaving Atletico for advice, with Arsenal, Chelsea and Man United all reportedly interested in securing a deal.

Adebayor, who spent three years at Arsenal, says he urged Partey to join the north London club as the move would be ‘good for his development’.

Speaking to reporters at an event in Accra last Saturday, Adebayor said: ‘He told me that some clubs in England, namely Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, and others have shown interest in him and he needs advice.

“I advised him to go to Arsenal because I have had the opportunity to play there and I think it will be good for his development.

“Arsenal is more than a club, it is a family and I’m impressed with his performances so far in the Premier League.”

The 27-year-old has enjoyed a promising start to his Arsenal career, although the Gunners are just 11th in the Premier League after a poor run of form.

Thomas Partey was subbed off at half-time during Arsenal’s defeat to Aston Villa before the international break but the injury concern does not seem too serious.
