Black Queens rally to take 3-1 lead over Morocco in double friendly

Ghana’s women seniors, the Black Queens rallied to beat their Moroccan counterparts 3-1 in an international friendly Thursday evening.

In the first of a double friendly all scheduled for the Accra Sports Stadium, Ghana overturned an early penalty converted by captain Chebbak Chizlane to claim the advantage through goals from Faustina Kyeremeh, Linda Eshun and substitute Georgina Ayisha Aoyem.

The Queens looked composed from start and made incursions in the visitors’ area but soon gave away a penalty. Referee Theresa Bremansu wasted no time in blowing her whistle when centre-back Linda Eshun brought down her opponent in the Ghana box.

Morocco skipper Chizlane stepped up to convert the spot-kick by sending goalkeeper Abigail Tawiah Mensah the wrong way. Morocco led in 5 minutes.

But the Queens responded with the equalizer by Faustina Kyeremeh in the 26th minute. The Immigration Ladies winger trapped a cross from the left before unleashing a low shot from just outside the box beyond the reach of the Morocco keeper.

Centre-back Linda Eshun then made amends for conceding a clumsy penalty by scoring a free-kick inside first half added time to give Ghana a 2-1 lead.

Just before the free-kick won by captain Mary Essiful was taken, Morocco had Ouinekh Nawael sent off for dissent.

The second half saw Georgina Ayisha Aoyem coming off the bench to extend Ghana’s lead in the 62nd minute with a neat left-foot strike.

No goal was further produced as Ghana took a 3-1 lead ahead of a second game scheduled for Monday, November 30 also at the Accra Sports Stadium.
