Bernard Mensah quits Ghana duties

Turkey-based Ghana midfielder, Bernard Mensah has announced he is taking a break from international football.

According to the 26-year-old, the decision is in the interest of his ‘career’

It has not been rosy for Mensah his loan switch from Kayserispor to Besiktas in the summer.

While fighting for consistency, he accepted an invitation to the Ghana national team after a long absence – the first time in five years – when the Black Stars played Mali and Qatar during the October international break.

Mensah ended up testing positive for COVID-19 upon returning from international duty but has since recovered.

The former Atletico Madrid player was however conspicuously missing when the latest Ghana squad was announced for back-to-back games against Sudan in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifiers.

Mensah made his decision known via Twitter.

“I have decided to take a break from the national team until further notice .. I want to concentrate on my career for now .. thanks to all Ghanaians for their support.”

Ghana plays Sudan on November 12 at the Cape Coast Stadium and another game against the same side, five days later at the Al-Hilal Stadium.
