“Reports linking me to Kotoko far from true,” says ‘honest’ Emmanuel Frimpong

Former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong says reports linking him with a return from retirement to Asante Kotoko are far from true.

Local reports had claimed the 28-year-old had even undergone a medical with the new Kotoko management preparing to announce him as one of their promised ‘big name’ signings ahead of the 2020/21 season.

But Frimpong, the once-capped Ghana international, says nothing close to the speculations has happened.

“If I’m being honest, the report is far from the truth and there’s nothing concrete,” Frimpong told TV3.

“I have been away from the game for so many years and it will take six months to have the fitness for professional football.

“The football brains will never depart me. I need to work on my fitness. And that’s what i have been doing at the gym,” he added.

Emmanuel Frimpong was forced to retire early from professional football because of a persistent knee injury.

He started his career at Arsenal but made only six senior appearances. During that, he played extensively on loan in England – at Wolves, Charlton, Fulham and Barnsley.

Frimpong later moved on to enjoy spells in Russia, Sweden and Cyprus during which he announced his surprise retirement in March 2019:
