Kotoko announce ‘surprise’ Razak Abalora capture

Asante Kotoko have announced the surprise signing of top goalkeeper Razak Abalora in a free-agent deal.

Given the already established order and top competition in that department, the Porcupine Warriors were least expected to stock up with another player with the pedigree of Abalora.

But on Tuesday, the club unleased the unexpected package as they unveiled securing the services of the 24-year-old for the next three years.

Abalora will be competing for the first-choice spot with captain Felix Annan and Kwame Baah (both national team goalkeepers) while youngster Danlad Ibrahim who is often away with the Ghana U-20 team is expected to leave for another loan spell in the upcoming 2020/21 season. Kotoko also have the ever-impressive Emmanuel Osei Kwame returning to fitness after a knee surgery.

Razak Abalora left Ghana Premier League side WAFA SC after splendid seasons to sign for Azam FC in the Tanzanian topflight in July 2017. He did not get a contract renewal at the end of the deal despite being the number one goalkeeper throughout his three-year stint there.

The signing of Razak Abalora by Kotoko comes barely a day after earning his first senior cap for the Ghana senior national team – the Black Stars who thrashed Qatar 5-1 in an international friendly in Turkey Monday.
