#FootyTransfers: Arsenal preparing Partey announcement

Arsenal are finally signing long summer target Thomas Partey after being forced to activate his buyout clause on transfer deadline day.

Partey left Madrid Monday afternoon for London after being informed the English giants, who had dragged feet since May, are depositing his £45 million (€50m) clause at the LaLiga headquarters.

With the way transfers work in Spain regarding players with release clauses in their contract, Arsenal did not have to negotiate with Atletico Madrid over the deal.  The Gunners only had to inform LaLiga that they are triggering Partey’s release clause.

Back in July, Atletico Madrid made a bold statement to Arsenal that the payment of the release clause is the only trump card for a sale.

Now Partey is in London to complete his part of the deal before midnight – a mandatory medical to formalize the signing of a four-year contract with a further option.

Since the start of the 2020/21 LaLiga campaign, Thomas Partey has featured in all three games for his side.

He replaced Koke on the 71st minute in the 6-1 battering of Granada.
