GFA Elections 2019: CAS dismisses Osei Palmer disqualification appeal

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has cleared the Ghana Football Association (under Normalization) of any wrongdoing in disqualifying Tema Youth FC bankroller Wilfred Kwaku Osei Palmer from the 2019 GFA Presidential elections.

Osei Palmer filed an appeal at the Swiss Court claiming the grounds for his disqualification from the October 2019 GFA presidential elections which was eventually won by Kurt E.S Okraku was flawed.

The renowned football administrator took the case to CAS with strong belief that he would get his wish.

After initial delays in releasing its ruling, CAS, on September 1, 2020, issued the Wilfred Kwaku Osei vs Ghana Football Association verdict dismissing the former’s challenge.

Page 17 of the ruling signed by the president of the panel, Michele A.R Bernasconi, cited the grounds for the decision against Palmer. It reads:

“The Court of Arbitration for Sport rules that:

  1. The appeal filed on 14 October 2019 by Mr. Wilfred Kwaku Osei against the Ghana Football Association (GFA) with respect to the decisions rendered on 4 October 2019, respectively 8 October 2019 by the Elections Committee of the Respondent is dismissed.
  2. The decisions rendered on 4 October 2019, respectively 8 October 2019 by the GFA Elections Committee of the Respondent are confirmed.
  3. The costs of arbitration, to be determined and served to the parties by the CAS Court Office, shall be borne by Mr. Wilfred Kwaku Osei.
  4. Each Party shall bear its own costs in connection with these arbitration proceedings.
  5. All other or further claims are dismissed.”
