U-20 WWCQ: 31 Princesses to camp at UCC for preps against Guinea-Bissau

Black Princesses coach, Yusif Basigi has named 31 players for camping ahead of Ghana’s clash with Guinea-Bissau in the first round of the African qualifiers to the 2021 Fifa U-20 Women’s World Cup.

The team has lost some two weeks of preparation time since President Akufo-Addo announced lifting restrictions for them to return to the training they were having before COVID-19 set in and forced their breaking camp in March.

Like their U-17 counterparts, Coach Basigi’s side will also be camping in Cape Coast but at the University of Cape Coast (UCC) Supernnuation Hostel from Friday, August 14.

All 31 invited players, technical staff members and essential service providers will go through a mandatory COVID-19 test upon arrival.

Road to Costa Rica 2021 – The Princesses Journey

The African qualifiers to Costa Rica-Panama 2021 will run through to the third round over the next three months after which two countries will emerge as the continent’s representatives at the Under-21 Fifa Women’s World Cup to be hosted by Costa Rica.

The Ghana U-20s are scheduled to face Guinea-Bissau on the road on Saturday, September 5 for the first leg before hosting the reverse the following weekend.

With limited time to play their first qualifying match, the Black Princesses will look to count on their initial preparations in March – where they travelled to face Morocco’s senior women’s national team in an IWD friendly – to overcome the Guinea-Bissau hurdle.

Round 2 of the qualifiers have been fixed for October 1 and 8 for the first and second leg ties respectively while the final stage and Africa’s representatives will be known after a set of games on November 5 and 12.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Fifa moved the dates for the upcoming Under-20 Women’s World Cup from August/September 2020 and fixed it for January 20 to February 6, 2021.
