Konadu wants GPL resumption behind closed doors

Asante Kotoko head coach, Maxwell Konadu supports the resumption of football in the country without fans.

In mid-March this year, football competitions in Ghana were suspended by the government amid the coronavirus outbreak in the country.

The Akufo-Addo led government further extended the ban on social and public gatherings until 31 July 2020.

Views from stakeholders of the nation’s football have been divided with some calling for the cancellation of the league season.

For Konadu, if football should resume, then at least, it must be behind closed doors.

“If we will continue the season, then we can start without spectators. We cannot allow all of us to throng to the stadium if we start now,” he told Happy FM.

“If we start with the empty stadium it will help so that we don’t spread the virus. We have no choice, that’s how things have become or we might as well stay home. We cannot risk lives.”

“So if we will resume playing, then its best we play without fans. We cannot take risks at all.”

In line with the government’s decision, the Ghana Football Association set a deadline of 30 June to decide whether to continue or terminate the 2019/20 season.
