COVID-19: Angola’s Girabola set for possible July start

Angolan clubs can return to training from June 27 onwards, but they will have to be behind closed doors in terms of the latest COVID-19 lockdown regulations in the country.

The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has already seen Angola bring a premature halt to its 2019/20 GiraBola season, one of the first African nations to call time on the campaign.

And they could also be one of the first to re-start as the government eases lockdown measures.

The clubs have now been given the opportunity to begin preparing for the next campaign after new rules on the prevention and containment of the novel coronavirus were announced by the Angolan government.

Members of the public are also being allowed to train in public spaces from Monday to Friday but at specified times.

Teams will be allowed to play matches from July 13 onwards, it was added.

It has already been confirmed that Petro Atletico and Primeiro Agosto will represent the country in the 2020/21 Caf Champions League, with Bravos do Maquis and Sagrada Esperança to compete in the Caf Confederation Cup.
