Akonnor will succeed if backed by strong technical team of ex-stars – Gargo

Ex-Ghana defender,  Mohammed Gargo has charged the GFA to build a strong technical team of former players around CK Akonnor if he must succeed as Black Stars coach.

The former Udinese man believes with ex-stars around the national team, the invited players will accord the technical team much respect.

“CK Akonnor must be tough if he wants to succeed as Black Stars coach.

“The CK Akonnor that I know is a tough personality and he must not try to be soft on the big egos in camp. He does not tolerate indiscipline just like me Gargo.

“However if CK Akonnor must succeed then he must be backed by a strong technical team comprising ex-stars who have seen it all in their football career.

“If you go to Nigeria, some ex-stars are helping with national team duties, which is helping a great deal.

“The Dutch team has the De Boer brothers assisting and this has gone a long way to help the national team.

“When that happens, most of the invited players will have respect for the technical team upon seeing the ex-stars around.

“The technical team must be strong to help Akonnor succeed,” Gargo told Akoma FM.

Akonnor was appointed Black Stars coach four months ago after the Ghana Football Association decided against renewing Kwasi Appiah’s contract.

The Black Stars is Akonnor’s biggest national team job despite handling the male U20 side, the Black Satellites sometime in 2013.

The former Ghana captain alongside assistant, David Duncan are expected to steer the Black Stars to the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations to held in Cameroon.

The former Wolfsburg forward happens to be one of the few coaches to handle Hearts of Oak, Asante Kotoko and AshantiGold.

He has had stints with Sekondi Eleven Wise alongside fellow ex-international, Odartey Lamptey.

He handled Dreams FC and failed on an attempt to get the Guinean national team job.
