Clottey saga: Kotoko to meet Fifa’s May 10 deadline, fans assured

Asante Kotoko have assured they will settle the over $240,000 costs relating to the transfer dispute over Emmanuel Clottey with Esperance within Fifa’s set time limit of May 10, 2020.

On April 9, the Fifa Disciplinary Committee directed the Porcupine Warriors, who were identified as an intervening party at the beginning of the case, to bring finality to their five-year dispute having failed to ensure that Clottey paid the Tunisian giants $180,000 for breaching his contract to join them back in 2015.

The costs, as a result of the latest Disciplinary Committee ruling, have spiked by an additional $60,000. It involves $15,000 as fee to the  single judge of the Fifa Disciplinary Committee who was assigned to sit on the case earlier this month.

And in addition, a $45,000 default interest on the unpaid $180,000 compensation decision by the Fifa Dispute Resolution Chamber in 2015.

Speaking to Joy Sports Saturday, Kotoko’s deputy Accra Representative, Nana Kwame Dankwah urged fans not to panic as the club’s Executive Chairman Kwame Kyei is ready to pay the debt.

“Our supporters should remain calm. There is no cause for alarm. In fact, the Chairman is just organising himself to pay the money,” Nana Kwame stated.

He also explained that management has declined supporters’ request to organize a fundraising to help pay the fine.

“The supporters front even wrote to Management for permission to organise fundraising but looking at the situation [vis-à-vis COVID-19], people are not working. So, taking money from the fans is not appropriate,” Nana Kwabena added.

Asante Kotoko risk a transfer ban both locally and internationally should they failed to pay up the $240,000 debt to Esperance and Fifa.
