2019/20 GPL: Hearts brush aside Olympics 4-0 in Accra derby [+HIGHLIGHTS]

Hearts of Oak secured a first win in four league games with an emphatic 4-0 victory over city rivals Great Olympics at the Accra Sports Stadium Wednesday night.

Once the Phobians made the breakthrough via forward Joseph Esso, they never looked back against their error-prone rivals in the 2019/20 Ghana Premier League match-day 14 encounter.

Esso initiated an attack from the centre by setting apart Kofi Kordzi whose shot was parried into the path of the former to easily open the scoring in the 16th minute.

Midfielder Benjamin Afutu extended their lead in the 64th minute with a header inside the six-yard box after a poor clearance attempt by Dunga Ofori.

Four minutes later, Olympics goalkeeper failed to parry a long drive to safety and Afutu arrived in time to hit home the Phobians’ third goal and his personal brace on the night.

And just inside additional time, Afutu was denied his hat-trick but Daniel Afriyie Barnieh ensured he added the fourth leaving Olympics rooted just above the bottom three with 14 points from as many games.

The 4-0 result is Hearts of Oak’s third win in 7 attempts at home so far in the campaign. They move to 7th position with 21 points.
