AshantiGold re-sign former loanee Nana Poku on short-term deal

Title chasers AshantiGold have re-signed former goal-king Nana Poku for the remainder of the 2019/20 Ghana Premier League.

The 27-year-old had a brief stint with the Miners about eight years ago when he joined on loan in the second round of the 2011/12 season from Berekum Chelsea.

He featured in AshGold’s 2012 MTN FA Cup finals defeat to New Edubiase United.

Sources indicate Nana Poku arrive as a short-term fix for the huge vacuum created by the departure of talisman Shafiu Mumuni as he signed for only up to the end of the ongoing season in July.

Nana Poku struggled to replicate the 16-goal form that earned him the top scorer award after the 2010/11 Ghana Premier League.

He ended his loan stint with the Miners after the FA Cup failure to kick-start several stints abroad in August 2012 – featuring for Ashdod, Hapoel Kfar Saba (loan), El Shorta, Masr El-Maqassa, Al Shabab (loan), Zamalek, Al-Wakrah SC and more recently Al-Markhiya SC.

Nana Poku will be eligible to feature for AshantiGold when the second registration window opens March 13.
