No deal: Kotoko, Zachariassen compensation talks fail

The trainer is holding out for $10,000 compensation but Kotoko are ready to pay only half.

Asante Kotoko are having problems in mutually parting ways with out-of-favour head coach Kjetil Zachariassen as the Norwegian is holding out for a $10,000 payout.

The two parties met at the club’s secretariat for an amicable settlement after the Porcupines proposed that the former AshantiGold boss leaves the club following their exit from the 2019/20 Caf Confederation Cup.

But they could not reach a compromise on a settlement fee.

“We met with Kotoko management on Tuesday. The meeting we had decided that let us separate amicably which everybody agrees. With how things have gone over the past days, both parties agree that the best thing is to separate but we couldn’t come at a compromise.

“Both parties came up with their proposals but no agreement was made.

“The contract stipulates that in the situation whereby either party decides to leave the contract, one pays compensation of three months,” coach Zachariassen’s agent Charles Kouadio explained.

Zachariassen earns a net of $3,000 per month. And Footy-Ghana.com understands at the meeting, the coach initially requested to be handed $13,500 as payout, representing his yet-to-be settled October entitlement, a three-month compensation plus half pay for November.

He later dropped his demands to a ‘final’ $10,000 but officials of the Porcupines represented by Nana Kwasi Gyambibi, Nana Kwame Dankwah and the club’s accountant were not willing to meet his expectations.

Kotoko, Footy-Ghana.com further understands, made a counteroffer of $5,000 and kept their stance, forcing the meeting to be adjourned.

Kjetil Zachariassen signed a three-year contract with Asante Kotoko in July and is only into his four months at the club.
