Afcon 2021Q: Late Black Stars call-up for Fatawu Mohammed

Hearts of Oak captain Fatawu Mohammed has received a late call-up to the senior Ghana squad for the November international break.

The 27-year-old is joining the national team ‘A’ squad for the first time ever – having been capped by the ‘B’ team recently in the CHAN qualifiers and the Wafu Cup of Nations held in Senegal where they placed second.

Fatawu, the right-back, replaces Harrison Afful in coach Kwasi Appiah’s squad set to face South Africa as well as Sao Tome and Principe in their first two games in Group C of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying.

Afful has had to withdraw from the Black Stars’ 23-man squad through injury at MLS club Columbus Crew.

Fatawu Mohammed is expected to join the team when they open camp on Monday, November 11.

Ghana will host Bafana Bafana at Cape Coast on November 14 before a clash away to Sao Tome four days later.
