U-23 Afcon: Ghana to face Cameroon, Mali and hosts Egypt in Group A

Ghana have been placed in Group A for their maiden participation at the Under-23 Africa Cup of Nations Egypt 2019 scheduled for next month.

Draw for the third edition of the eight-nation competition was held in Alexandria Wednesday.

And it pitted coach Ibrahim Tanko’s Black Meteors against host nation Egypt, Mali and Cameroon in the group.

Ghana will play all their group matches at the Cairo International Stadium beginning with an opening day clash with fellow debutants Cameroon on November 8.

It will then be followed by Mali and hosts Egypt – all in three-day intervals –November 11 and 14 respectively.

Egypt, on the other hand, will kick off the tournament against Mali.

Also, defending champions Nigeria have been drawn in Group B with Cote d’Ivoire, South Africa and Zambia.

The 2019 Under-23 Afcon is scheduled to take place from 8-22 November 2019 in the Egyptian capital Cairo and will see Group A hosting their games at the Cairo International Stadium and Group B at the Al Salam Stadium.

The top three teams will qualify to represent Africa at the 2020 Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo.

The U-23 Africa Cup of Nations is held every four years and showcases some of African football’s emerging talents while also acting as a qualifier for the Summer Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.

Group A – Egypt, Mali, Cameroon, Ghana

Group B – Nigeria, Cote d’Ivoire, South Africa, Zambia
