Belarus side FC Minsk will face FC Barcelona in the round of 16 of the UEFA Women’s Champions League.
This came to light at the draw held on Monday afternoon by former England international Karen Carney, UEFA Women’s Football Ambassador and German women’s football legend Nadine Kessler in Nyon, Switzerland.
The Catalan club will play host to the Belarus champions on October 16/17 before visiting Minsk for the return leg on October 30/31.
Africa will witness six (6) of its own in this two-legged fixture. Former African female football of the year Asisat Oshoala will be coming up against five (5) fellow Africans, including Nigeria forwards Emuidzhi Oghiabekhva and Uchechi Sunday.
Other African players expected to feature in this double fixture are Côte d’Ivoire’s Nadege Cissé, Cameroonian left full-back Alvine Njolle and South African striker Madiba Letago.
Oghiabekhva 29, has scored 10 goals in seven outings in this year’s Champions League to maintain her top-scorer chase.
Minsk’s 5 African players are regulars and have contributed immensely to the team’s success aside Ampah, who is nursing an injury after a successful knee surgery.
