Caf CC: AshantiGold progress came via teamwork, says Shafiu Mumuni

AshantiGold hat-trick hero Shafiu Mumuni has credited his side’s 3-0 victory over Akonangui FC in the Caf Confederation Cup to teamwork and determination.

The Miners captain grabbed all goals the opening ten minutes of the game at the dreaded Len Clay Stadium Saturday.

The resounding win sent coach Ricardo da Rocha’s side through to the first round of the group stage qualifying on 4-1 aggregate.

“I’m very happy with the hat-trick today and also the victory over them [Akonangui FC],” Shafiu told the press after the game.

“We were determined to eliminate them with more goals in the early minutes of the match and it happened, so we are pleased with the result despite not adding more after recess.

“We achieved the victory together as a team with a great performance and hoping to knock out our next opponent [RS Berkane]. We thank the fans for their unflinching support before and during the match,” he added.

The Obuasi-based side will next battle Moroccan outfit RS Berkane.

The winner, after two-legs, will play against one of the teams that will drop from the Champions League.
