Hearts release Sowah and Alhassan

Hearts of Oak have announced that duo Ernest Sowah and Yusif Alhassan are no longer on their books.

“Goalkeeper Ernest Sowah and defender Yusif Alhassan have both been released from the club. We wish the two players the best of luck in their careers going forward,” the club published across their social media platforms Monday.

Sowah spent 14 months of his two-year contract with the Phobians after joining as a free agent from arch-rivals Asante Kotoko in May 2018.

The former Berekum Chelsea and Don Bosco shot-stopper was expected to become the first-choice when he joined the Phobians but struggled to make a case for himself, forcing coach Kim Grant to sign youngster Richmond Ayi from WAFA SC late last year.

In the recently held Normalization Special Cup, Sowah got a rare opportunity to make a case for himself but a shoulder injury in the first half of their game away to Inter Allies at Tema Stadium kept him out for months.

And as they prepare to begin preparations for the new season from July 29, head coach Kim Grant, who is on a mission to build a winsome youthful squad, appears to have opted to offload the oldest and most-experienced among his goalkeepers.

Interestingly, young defender Yusif Alhassan, who was promoted from the Phobians’ youth team ‘Auroras’ a week after the arrival of Sowah in May 2018, has also been shown the exit.
