#FootyTransfers: Espérance close to Kwame Bonsu deal

African champions Espérance Sportive de Tunis are closing in on a deal to sign Ghana midfielder Kwame Bonsu from Asante Kotoko.

Both clubs have confirmed negotiations are far advanced and that the transfer could be sealed soon.

Bonsu, 24, returned home to join the Porcupine Warriors in October 2018 after a bizarre social life incident cut short his blossoming football career in Sweden.

But the former Gefle IF box-to-box midfielder displayed great recovery, getting his mojo back to power his new club to a Caf Confederation Cup group stage finish.

Bonsu earned his first senior national team call-up later in March when Ghana hosted Kenya in their final qualifier to the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations. He was unused in the game but dazzled on his debut in an international friendly with Mauritania days later.

He later helped Kotoko to secure qualification to the 2019/20 Caf Champions League by winning the Normalization Special Cup Tier-One competition later in June.

Espérance retained the title as Tunisian champions by winning the 14-team 2018/19 Tunisian Ligue Professionnelle 1 with 56 points. They beat rivals Etoile du Sahel to the title with 2 points.
