Appiah considers Ghana future after Afcon failure

Head coach of the Black Stars, Kwasi Appiah is reportedly contemplating announcing an end to his second stint any time soon.

Footy-Ghana.com sources indicate the ex-international intensified consultations over his continued stay in the job or otherwise after he supervised the Black Stars to their worst outing since 2006 following Monday night’s round of 16 exit from the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations finals.

Appiah, this website is informed, has mooted “a decision” to some family members and close associates for advice.

Our sources also indicate members of the Normalization Committee together with Sports Minister Isaac Asiamah held a meeting with the coach at the Black Stars’ base in Ismailia with deliberations over his future reportedly a prominent subject.

Appiah was tasked to lead Ghana to end a 37-year Nations Cup trophy drought in Egypt but the ignominious elimination from the competition by Tunisia has led to calls for his departure as Black Stars head coach.

The respected coach is expected to accept responsibility for the team’s woeful outing, apologize to the nation and vacate the job.

He could be pushed if he fails to quit, we understand.

Kwasi Appiah returned as coach of the senior national team on a two-year term in April 2017. His deal expired this May but was handed a brief extension for the Afcon campaign.
