Ghana won’t have scoring problems at Afcon, says Appiah

Ghana coach Kwasi Appiah is upbeat his team will not face scoring problems as manifested in training matches in the run-up to the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) finals.

The Black Stars fired blanks in both matches against Namibia and South Africa played behind closed doors – the former ended up a 1-0 defeat while the clash with the Bafana Bafana was barren draw.

Speaking ahead of Ghana’s opening match against Benin, Appiah maintained there would be no issues with his team’s scoring ability at the tournament.

“The scoreline in our two trial games are not that important. The most important thing is what have you done afterwards?

“We have worked on that and hopefully we will see some goals. All the teams in our group are strong but the most important thing is preparing well to face them and that is what we have done,” the Ghana gaffer noted.

Kwasi Appiah however admits there would be no pushovers and is counting on his charges to step up to the plate.

“Modern football has changed and there is no way you can underrate any team and every team is pushing but I believe in my players. I have full confidence in them and I know they will deliver,” he also stated at Monday’s presser.

Ghana face the Squirrels of Benin in their Group F opener at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations on Tuesday. Kickoff is 20:00 GMT at the Ismailia Stadium.
