Afcon 2019: Tunisia vs Angola – Match Preview

Tunisia will square off with Angola in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) Group E match at the Suez Stadium in Egypt on Monday.

Kickoff is at 17:00 GMT.

The Carthage Eagles are one of the teams which are expected to mount a serious challenge for this year’s Afcon title, having won the tournament in 2004.

Tunisia head coach Alain Giresse feels that his side is in good shape ahead of their first game in the finals after winning their last friendly match.

“Winning our last friendly match against Burundi ahead of travelling to Egypt for the African Cup is very positive, especially on the mental level,” Giresse told a Tunisian radio station.

“We face a stubborn opponent and the game showed us the difficulties that await us in the finals.”

The French trainer’s dangermen are Wahbi Khazri of Saint-Etienne and Al Duhail midfielder Youssef Msakni.

Meanwhile, Angola are making their return to the finals after missing the last two tournaments, having reached the knockout stages twice.

Egypt-based forward Geraldo, who is on the books of Al Ahly, has made it known that Palancas Negras will do everything to reach the round of 16.

“We are trying to deliver a good performance in the tournament and accomplish an achievement that has not been achieved before by the Angolan national team, despite the difficulty of our group,” Geraldo told Time Sport.

“I hope Al Ahly fans will support Angola in the tournament. We will do everything we can to qualify from the first round.”

Geraldo and SS Lazio defender Bastos are key players in Angola head coach Srdjan Vasiljevic’s squad.

In head-to-head stats, Tunisia and Angola have met six times.

The Carthage Eagles have registered three victories and the other three matches ended in a draw.
