Gyan prays for injury-free Black Stars at Afcon 2019

The Black Stars attacker has featured in all of Ghana's Afcon campaigns since 2008.

Ghana’s all-time top scorer, Asamoah Gyan says he hopes for a fully fit Black Stars at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon).

The senior men’s national football team will continue their pursuit for a fifth Afcon title in Egypt this June after losing their recent final to Cote d’Ivoire in 2015.

Coach Kwasi Appiah’s 29-man side will be holding pre-tournament preparations in the United Arab Emirates for a little over two weeks before heading to Egypt for the tournament.

And Gyan, Ghana’s new General Captain’s desire is for the squad to remain physically fit throughout the preparations as well as the tournament proper.

“The only thing I urge Ghanaians to do is to pray against injuries between now and the time we play the tournament. Anything can happen because football is a game of contact,” he told Oyerepa FM.

“I am very fit and ready. I’m just waiting for 1st June so we move to Abu Dhabi. We will have about 24 days to play our first game and I’m sure it’s enough to prepare us for the tourney,” Gyan, who could be making his seventh Afcon bow, added.

The Black Stars will play two friendly matches before their travel to Ismaily, Egypt. The four-time African champions are in Group F alongside defending champions Cameroon, Benin, who will play their second Afcon after appearing in 2004 and debutants Guinea Bissau.
