FC Utrecht sign Ghana’s Issah Abass

Dutch top tier side FC Utrecht have landed the services of promising Ghana forward Issah Abass on loan from FSV Mainz 05.

The 20-year-old signed for the Bundesliga side from Ljubljana last summer but could only manage a league appearance (against Hertha Berlin on match-day 7) due to a troubling muscle problem.

Needing more playing time, the attacker agreed to be farmed out for the upcoming 2019/20 season in the Eredivisie and sealed his deal on Friday.

“He [Isaah Abass] did very well in the last year and did a great job in the winter, he was on a very good track, but then had to take a forced break due to a prolonged muscle injury,” said Mainz 05 sports director Rouven Schröder.

“Match practice on the highest level is immensely important for the next step, preferably every weekend.

“As a top 6 Eredivisie club, Utrecht is ideal for Abass. We are sure that he will join us next summer with many assists and goals from the Netherlands back to Mainz and will strengthen our professional team in the season 2020/2021,” he added.

Issah Abass is contracted to Mainz 05 till summer 2023.
