Afcon 2019: June 9 and 14 confirmed for Ghana warm-up games

Ghana have confirmed dates for two friendlies taking place during their pre-Africa Cup of Nations training camp in the United Arab Emirates.

Footy-Ghana.com, couple of weeks ago, revealed that the Normalization Committee had sealed agreements for the Black Stars to test their readiness for the 2019 Afcon finals against Namibia and South Africa while holding their preparations in Dubai.

Following an official confirmation of the friendlies that came with the announcement of coach Kwasi Appiah’s provisional squad, the dates have been revealed as June 9 and 14 for both games.

The Black Stars will first take on the Namibia eight days after arriving in Dubai – Sunday, June 9.

The Brave Warriors are returning to the Afcon for a third stint since their last involvement in the 2008 edition hosted by Ghana. They finished second behind Guinea-Bissau – Ghana’s Afcon 2019 group opponents – in the qualifiers.

Five days later (Friday, June 14), Ghana are scheduled to return to action once more against the Bafana Bafana of South Africa.

The Black Stars, who find themselves in Group F of the 2019 Afcon, will open their campaign against the Squirrels of Benin on June 25 before games against Cameroon and Guinea-Bissau. Ghana are targeting an end to a 37-year Afcon trophy drought at the Egypt finals.
