Kotoko NCC demand Akonnor stay

Kwaku Amponsah, chairman of the official supporters’ wing of Asante Kotoko, the National Circles Council (NCC), has cautioned the club’s management against relieving head coach CK Akonnor of his duties.

According to him, the supporters are satisfied with the performance of the coach as well as his players and are threatening a face-off with authorities should the former be dismissed as rumoured.

Growing rumours since the exit of the Porcupine Warriors from the group stage of the 2018/19 Caf Confederation Cup have indicated that the powers that be was bent on sacking the head coach CK Akonnor.

Kotoko CEO George Amoako oved to douse the exit rumours upon arrival from Zambia on Tuesday but the speculations lingered on.

“There will be no need to sack CK Akonnor at this time; he has done tremendously well.

“I realized C.K [Akonnor] can do the job when we played Kariobangi Sharks. The NCC is not in support of this; we will let them know we don’t support such decision if it’s true,” he told Oyerepa FM.

“How can you take such a decision at this time? The playing body, technical team and even they the management when given enough time can take us to places.

“As supporters, we are happy with their performance so please the management should not cause any troubles for us. We are enjoying peace.

“We will stand against such a decision. No we will not accept it.”

Akonnor, the former Ghana captain managed two victories, a draw and three defeats, amassing 7 points as Kotoko placed third behind Al-Hilal(11 points) and Nkana FC (9 points) in Group C of the Confederation Cup

Kotoko had not been in the group stages of any Caf competition since 2008.
