Duncan happy with Black Stars return

Sassuolo midfielder, Alfred Duncan has opened up about constantly being overlooked for a Black Stars call-up despite his consistently good performances in the Italian Serie A.

The 26-year-old is back with the national team for the first time since Ghana’s 5-1 win against Congo in a 2018 World Cup qualifier back in 2017.

The former Inter Milan youth star says he never let the lack of national team call-ups affect his club commitments.

“I would be expecting a call-up but it doesn’t come through,” Duncan told Citi Sports.

He revealed how he managed to insulate himself from the feeling of disappointment whenever he misses an invitation to represent his country.

“All the same, I only needed to focus on the good job I’ve been doing in these recent years and if one gains a call-up, it’s a bonus. But I’ve been able to focus on what I’ve been doing at my club so whatever happened outside didn’t affect me that much unlike the previous years.

“I think in the last two years I haven’t been able to gain a call-up to the national team but I’ve been able to manage myself and held on until now that I’m finally back.

“I’m here to give a helping hand,” he added.

Alfred Duncan is among 24 invited players preparing for Ghana’s final Afcon 2019 qualifying game at home to Kenya. The match is scheduled for the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday, March 23.
